چکیده

Papers published in this series record the significant findings resulting from USGS/BRD-sponsored and cospon-sored research programs. They may include extensive data or theoretical analyses. These papers are the in-house counterpart to peer-reviewed journal articles, but with less stringent restrictions on length, tables, or raw data, for example. We encourage authors to publish their findings in the most appropriate journal possible. However, the Biological Science Reports represent an outlet in which BRD authors may publish papers that are difficult to publish elsewhere due to the formatting and length restrictions of journals. At the same time, papers in this series are held to the same peer-review and high quality standards as their journal counterparts. These reports are intended for the publication of book-length-monographs; synthesis documents; compilations of conference and workshop papers; important planning and reference materials such as strategic plans, standard operating procedures, protocols, handbooks, and manuals ; and data compilations such as tables and bibliographies. Papers in this series are held to the same peer-review and high quality standards as their journal counterparts. Results of this program are dispersed among various journals, theses, dissertations, and unpublished reports. In order to simplify use of this scattered information, this publication provides referenced summaries of unpublished HSI model evaluations that were initiated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. For a limited number of species, published HSI model evaluations are summarized. All of the authors of the individual synopses were involved in the development and testing of HSI models. Except for Janelle Corn (who is in the final stages of completing a Ph.D. program at Colorado State University), all of the authors currently work for the Biological Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey.

Determination of Habitat Suitability Index and the most significant factors on distribution pattern of Capoeta capoeta in Roodbabol River, Mazandaran Province.

Presence-absence and abundance of each fish species in a river habitat depends on several factors and they prefer a specific range of each habitat factor. The present study was carried out to investigate habitat suitability index of Capoeta capoeta and the effect of habitat factors on its distribution and abundance in Roodbabol branch of the River Babolrood (Mazandaran Province). To do, fish sa...

Habitat suitability index of Barbus cyri (Heckel, 1843) in Tootkabon River, the South Caspian Sea basin, Iran

Knowledge of habitat requirements of aquatic animals plays an important role in fisheries and protection programs of aquatic ecosystems. Hence, this study was conducted to investigate the suitability indexes of habitat use and habitat suitability index (HSI) of Barbus cyri in its distribution range in Tootkabon River. A number of environmental variables, including elevation, water depth, river ...

A GIS-based multi-scale approach to habitat suitability modeling

The aim of this study is to develop a method by means of which it is possible to produce georeferenced ecological information about the habitat requirements of different species. The integrated habitat suitability index approach includes the steps of constructing habitat suitability models, producing data needed in models, evaluating of target areas based on habitat factors, and combining vario...

The prediction of Persian Squirrel Distribution Using a Combined Modeling Approach in the Forest Landscapes of Luristan Province

Habitat destruction is the most important factor determining species extinction; hence, the management of wildlife populations necessitates the management of habitats. Habitat suitability modeling is one of the best tools used for habitat management. There are several methods for habitat suitability modeling, with each of having  some different advantages and disadvantages. In this study, we us...

Distribution and habitat suitability index model for the Andean catfish Astroblepus ubidiai (Pisces: Siluriformes) in Ecuador.

In conservation biology there is a basic need to determine habitat suitability and availability. Astroblepus ubidiai (Siluriforms), the only native fish in the highlands of Imbabura province in the Ecuadorian Andes, was abundant in the past in the Imbakucha watershed and adjacent drainages, but currently it is restricted to a few isolated refuges. Conservation actions are needed if this unique ...
